- An example of this being violated would be a person who is arrested for wearing a shirt that says I hate the president.
2nd Amendment
- Right to keep and bear arms
- An example of this being violated would be a police officer coming to your front door and telling you that he is going to take all of your weapons.
3rd Amendment
- No forced lodging troops in private homes
- An example of this being used would be a person who tells soldiers "no" when the soldiers come to their door and say "I want to stay in your house for however long I want" The homeowner has the right to do this.
4th Amendment
- No unreasonable search, seizures,and proper warrant
- An example of this being violated would be a police officer telling you that they are going to go into your house and search it, because something was stollen, and teenagers like to steal things.
5th Amendment
- Due process, eminent domain, self-incrimination, double jeopardy
- An example of this would be If you were on trial for something and you were found innocent and the court told you, you had to go on trial again for that same reason, that would be violating this amendment.
6th Amendment
- Right to trial in criminal cases
- An example of this being violated would be the court telling you that your trial for your case is going to take 3 years.
7th Amendment
- Right to jury trials in most civil cases
- An example of this being used would be for example, that if you are suing someone in court and you don't want the judge to make the decision, you have the right to have a jury listen to your case.
8th Amendment
- Bail, cruel, and unusual punishment
- An example of this being violated would be you getting thrown in jail for 10 months, because you got 1 speeding ticket. This would be excessive punishment.
9th Amendment
- Unenumerated Rights
- purpose of this is to protect citizen's rights that aren't necessarily mentioned else where in the constitution. An example of this being violated would be the government telling a female and that she is not allowed to marry a male.
10th Amendment
- Power reserved to the states
- An example of this being used would be the government having some power over the states and being able to control some things, but also the state itself being allowed to have power and control things in their state as well.
11th Amendment
- Immunity of states from certain suits
- An example of this being used is that the federal courts are limited and restricted from hearing lawsuit's against any states government that are brought by citizens of another state or foreign country.
12th Amendment
- Separate voting for President and Vice President
- An example of this being used would be making the two positions cooperative. It ensures that anyone who becomes Vice President must be eligible to become President.
13th Amendment
- Prohibition of Slavery
- An example of this being violated would be some person making some other person be a slave for them and do all their work.
14th Amendment
- Citizenship, due process, equal protection under the law, nationalization of the Bill of Rights
- An example of this being violated would be someone being treated different and discriminated against because of their, race, color, or religion. Everyone should have equal protection under the law.
15th Amendment
- No denial of vote because of race, color, or previous state of servitude
- An example of this being violated would be telling an African-American person that they are not aloud to vote for the simple fact that they are African-American.
16th Amendment
- Power of congress to tax incomes
- An example of this being used would be the federal government taxing the income of people and collecting some money to build roads, bridges, or to help enforce laws.
17th Amendment
- Popular election of U.S Senators
- An example of this being violated would be regular people who can normally vote not being aloud to vote for the senators.
18th Amendment
- Prohibition of Alcohol
- An example of this being used would be people are not aloud to produce, transport, or sell alcohol (though not the consumption or private possession.
19th Amendment
- Women's Suffrage
- An example of this being violated would be a woman being told she can not vote because of her sex.
20th Amendment
- Change of dates for start of presidential/congressional terms
- An example of this being used would be the presidential/congressional terms starting and ending on January 20th, as it is stated in the constitution.
21st Amendment
- Repeal of Prohibition
- An example of this being violated would be someone telling another person they can't produce, transport, or sell alcohol.
22nd Amendment
- Presidents are limited to 2 terms/10 years in office
- An example of this being violated would be a president who is aloud to have 3 terms being in office.
23rd Amendment
- District of Columbia gets 3 electoral votes
- An example of this being used would be residing citizens who live in the District of Columbia have a right to vote in presidential elections, grants the District electors in the electoral college.
24th Amendment
- Ban on Poll Taxes
- An example of this being violated would be congress and/or the states being aloud to vote in federal elections on a payment of a poll tax or any other type of tax
25th Amendment
- Presidential succesion, Vice Presidential vacancy, Presidential disability
- An example of this being used is if the president dies, resigns, or for some reason is removed from office, the vice president will become the president/acting president.
26th Amendment
- Minimum voting age no higher than 18
- An example of this being violated would be someone letting a 17 year old vote in a presidential election.
27th Amendment
- Congressional Pay
- An example of this being violated would be someone coming in on their off time and changing their pay.
